I've loaded several documents formatted in MS Office 7 (Excell, Word, and Powerpoint) to webpages. When trying to open them they appeared to be in compressed files and can't be opened.
Is there a compatibility issue with MS Office 7 software? _________________ webmasterdan |

| Hi. There are a few things you can try to solve this. First, be sure you are using the newest version of internet explorer, currently version 8. If the problem continues, instead of opening the file directly, right click it and choose "save target as." This will allow you to download and save the file, and it can then be opened from your computer directly. If you have further questions, please contact us at 800-346-6120. |

What I'm trying to do is post the documents to the website so anyone who has permission to view the webpage can open the documents, powerpoints, or spreadsheets by clicking on the hyperlink (like a regular web page) rather than having to right click. _________________ webmasterdan |

Again, this is a known issue in some versions of Internet Explorer (if using IE 8 or another web browser, such as Firefox, this issue will not occur).
When you download a docx, xlsx, pptx, etc. file in earlier versions of Internet Explorer, it is automatically saved as a zip file. Technically, this is because the Office 2007 file format is actually a zip file with docx (etc.) as the extension rather than zip. This means when you download a 2007 file using IE, it will be renamed as a zip file (if you merely click on the link to the document).
If you right-click the file, choose save target as, and rename the file to save with the proper extension (.docx for Word, .xlsx for Excel, .pptx for PowerPoint), it will save in its regular format.
Again, this issue only exists when viewing the webpage with certain versions of Internet Explorer. |

The computer I used to test the document has IE 8 and MS Office 7. _________________ webmasterdan |

| Even with IE 8, you may still need to right-click and use the Save Target As... option, saving the file with the proper extension (.docx, .xlsx, .pptx) to properly save and view the document. |

OK, thanks.
So it appears to be a Microsoft problem. I guess their beta-testing with customers continues. _________________ webmasterdan |
